Introduction

This is my blog! My name is Krystal Galley and i'm a student at Brunel University studying Multimedia Technology and Design. I made this blog as part of my photography assignment, to show my images.

Task 1 - Research of Turner & Monet

I carried out some research while trying to find what kind of images to create for task 1. I thought I would simply find the work of Turner and Monet as they were the two names given on our assignment sheet.

After doing a 'Google' search I found that the work of Turner was more to do with sea, waves, boats and castles; whereas the work of Monet related more to nature such as trees, flowers and ponds.

This picture shows the first page of my Google search for William Turner. Here it is clear to see sea paintings.

This picture shows the first page of my Google search for Claude Monet. Here it is clear to see nature paintings.

Task 1 - Original photos

This is the painting I liked out of Claude Monets' paintings:

The following are the images I took to edit to try and get the same emotions Monet was trying to show:

I took this picture because there is more greenery than the other picture. I thought I could edit these together to make the final image look more like Monets' painting.

The main part of this picture is the bridge, like in Monets' painting.

Task 1 - Final image

F.Stop= F/6.3
ISO= 200
Shutter Speed= 1/160 sec
Taken on= 22/03/12

This is my final image edited on photoshop. I had trouble making the image have the same colours as the Monets' version, however it was hard to try and find a location which looked like the painting! After going to many parks to find a bridge with lillypads, I ended up using the bridge on campus!

My original idea was to drive to dover and take a picture relating to Monets' arch painting, however this didn't go to plan as I was worried I would spend the money travelling all that way to find that I can't get to the area where the arch is! So although I regret my decision and feel I should have at least seen if I could take a picture of the arch, I just settled for the bridge idea.

Task 2 - Research on surreal images

I carried out some research on surreal images to get ideas of how I could create my own surreal looking images.

These images are the work of Magritte:

Other examples:

I found that surreal images are simply weird looking images that often question the viewer to think...WHAT? Is that even possible?!

Task 2 - All photos

The following are all of the images relating to Task 2...

Task 2 - Final image

The following is my favorite image for Task 2...

ISO= 100
F.Stop= F/3.1
Shutter speed= 1/40 sec
Date taken= 21/03/2012

This image was taken from the following two images:

I liked a couple of my other surreal images but I think I like this one best as it looks the most surreal! Two images were taken of me, all I done was cut the mouth out of one and stuck it onto my hand on another. I used photoshop to do this and used tools such as the blur tool to blend in the mouth with my hand a little.

The only thing I would improve about this image is the quality. I should have really asked someone to take the picture of me instead of doing it myself as there would be more in the picture. Also if I used my Nikon DSLR (which I originally planned to use, however it wouldn't focus on me when I tried to take the image myself) instead of my Sony digital camera the image quality would have been much sharper.
